Inspiring Collections

Our collections are a rich resource for students, designers and artists who can study and draw them at close hand.

Students from regional universities regularly use the fashion collections as part of project work. Because they can examine how garments have been constructed, it gives them a unique insight into historical design. Pin on Pinterest

Specialist groups like the Costume Society can study particular areas of the collections. Pin on Pinterest

The collections are used not only by students but also by local designers and artists. Pin on Pinterest

The way that we use our collections gives students, researchers or just those interested in history the unique opportunity to study, handle (with care), photograph and draw an object or garment. Visitors can come, by appointment, for a few hours or a few days. They can come and view a selection across the collections or decide to take the time to study in detail. We aim to make the collections accessible to as many people as possible.
